Excellently developed and ideally located industrial areas are hard to find in Switzerland – except in the Grisons: At the available Grisons industrial zones, export-oriented companies can evolve on inexpensive land in an inspiring environment. What makes the most popular leisure-time region of Switzerland into an attractive high-tech development and production location?
Qualified skilled personnel
The US-American Hamilton Group shows strong growth and employs a workforce of around 1,700 employees in the Grisons. In 2021 more than 7,000 skilled employees such as engineers, mechanics and electronics technicians or scientists applied for jobs and around 350 of them were taken on by the growing company. The know-how available in the labor market was also decisive for the German WITTENSTEIN Group. Co-Managing Director Gerhard Horn explains: «The ready availability of skilled workers at production level, the understanding of quality by local employees as well as the significantly higher number of annual working hours provide us with advantages over other locations in Europe.»
Excellent quality of life
The Grisons offers its inhabitants, residents and workers the whole package: Families live comparably inexpensively in the Grisons and enjoy excellent education, training and leisure-time opportunities for children and adults. Companies benefit from the high standard of living in the canton when recruiting workers. «It is a big plus for recruitment of personnel that our highly qualified and motivated workers can work where other people enjoy their holidays», states Andreas Wieland, Member of the Board of Hamilton Group companies.
Central location and excellent delivery reliability
Functioning geographically linked supply chains are key criteria for export companies like Wittenstein. The internationally active company with headquarters in Southern Germany specialises in electro-mechanical servo-drive systems. With the Grisons, Wittenstein chose an optimally developed production location at the center of Europe. The metropolitan areas of Zurich/Basel, Milan/Turin, Innsbruck or Stuttgart/Munich can reached within one to three and a half hours' drive.
Funding programmes for innovative, export-oriented companies
Innovative companies in the Grisons profit from national and cantonal promotion measures. These include financial contributions, loans, guarantees or tax relief. WITTENSTEIN-Co-Managing Director Gerhard Horn emphasises: «The exemplary and unbureaucratic support provided by the local authorities, whether the rapid handling of permits, incentives for creating new workplaces through location development or the offer of advantageous financial solutions from the Canton Grisons, have played an important role in our successful development.»
