At the Physikalisch-Meteorologisches Observatorium Davos (PMOD/WRC), solar radiation has been measured precisely for over 100 years. On the institute’s roof, high-precision instruments measure solar radiation and the atmosphere day after day. Here, crucial data is generated to better understand the climate and closely observe changes.
The observatory is a global reference: instruments for research institutions around the world are calibrated here. And not only for Earth—data from PMOD’s own instruments on current space missions flows directly back to Davos, delivering new insights into the sun, space weather, and their effects on Earth and the planetary system.

Further research projects in Graubünden
Research with measurement devices is also conducted in Landquart: CSEM operates a center for nanomedicine and biosensors here. Tiny devices are developed that, for example, detect allergies more quickly, monitor vital parameters, or enable new diagnostic methods.
The center works closely with universities and industry partners, supports start-ups, and thus strengthens the high-tech landscape in the Alpine Rhine Valley. With its innovations, it ensures that research from Graubünden has an impact worldwide.
